A Presentation By Tony Green

dreamstime xs FrackingWell48873160Natural gas production is at an all-time high which has led to the lowest gas prices in a generation. Many suspect the United States will eventually be the world’s largest exporter of Natural Gas. The process of Hydraulic Fracturing has been one of the primary reasons for the abundant supply of natural gas.

The Oil and Gas industry received an exemption to the Clean Water Act in 2005 which is referred to as the Halliburton Loophole. It permits the oil industry not to disclose the content of the chemicals used to extract gas from shale formations. Fracking chemicals are said to be comprised of a toxic mix of over 600 chemicals, many of them are referenced in the Safe Water Drinking Act.

In this presentation I will discuss further what fracking chemicals are composed of and how this would lead to the oil industry needing an exemption and the implication this has for all Americans, especially those living in close proximity of fracking wells. I will cover questions such as:

  • What has driven the increase in the reliance on natural gas?
  • How did the oil and gas industries receive an exemption to the Clean Water Act?
  • Why are hazardous chemicals are needed to extract natural gas in shale deposits?
  • The components in fracking fluids have caused concerns about our water.
  • Why fracking is here to stay.
