A Presentation / Discussion Hosted By Mei-Ling Shek
Todays session is a continuation of our October 20th program on ecosystem services and natural capital. We shall first view a video entitled “Inspiration: Why We Need to Put a Price Tag on Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services”, featuring Professor Gretchen Daily of Stanford University. She is one of the world´s foremost experts on valuation of natural capital, and believes that in all planning of urban development and land use need to consider the protection of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and that the only way to create long-term welfare is to quantify the value of ecosystems. As one of the most immediate effects of urban development is the loss of mature trees, we shall next discuss the value of trees. A healthy urban forest is essential to a healthy urban environment. The use of a tree benefit calculator will also be explored.
Please join us and participate in this intereresting session.
