green house pic 2The smart home is defined as a 'building' where various devices, equipment, and products can be monitored and controlled through the application of smart mobile devices. This includes the control of lighting, heating, cooling, consumer electronics, safety and security, smoke and hazardous gases.

In  this talk we study the thermal behavior of smart home under various conditions, such as with and without attic. Our experimental work was performed during summer and temperature variations were measured. In order to increase the performance of the attic we used axial fans to reduce the temperature of the attic. Then we used high reflectivity material to decrease even more the attic temperature. In the final part, we removed the attic and repeated the same procedure. Our results showed the importance of attic on thermal behavior of smart home.

About the Presenter

Dr. Yazdan P. Razi is a former assistant professor at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France. He is the author of more than 30 research papers and book chapters on heat transfer and one of the pioneers of thermo-vibrational  convection  in fluid and porous media. He was Sr. Thermal engineering manager at Flextronics International  where he was responsible for thermal simulations and testing of power supplies ranging from 4W to 1400W. His recent work is on thermal management of camera modules and the thermo-deformation aspects in Digital Optics company. Dr. Razi specializes in geometric optimization method, constructal theory, innovative heatsink design, wind tunnel testing,  heat transfer enhancement in natural and forced convection, coupled problems such as thermo-brightness analysis of LED engines and thermal stability analysis in fluid and porous media.
