Insights Into the Future of Sustainability: Thanks to My A.P. Environmental Science Class

A Presentation By Tony Green

pixabay children 1587968 1280Before becoming a high school science teacher last fall, I shared the message of sustainability to audiences nationally, primarily with adults. Since the Bay Area overall is as green minded a place as you find anywhere I wondered if teaching high school students would provide a new outlet for encouraging people to be more sustainable. As it turned out I was the one who was awakened. During my time teaching children their questions and concerns provided insights which I believe would be worthwhile for everyone to keep in mind as we all strive to make our planet a better place for those who will inhabit it in the future.

A Presentation By Rod Kirk

bricks pic 1 smSo you want to make a difference? You want to get your act together and do your part in living your life in the most sustainable way that makes sense? Where do you start? Who do you talk to? What are you going to do? At some point in time, we are all going to have to find answers to these questions in order to get us on the right track to a more sustainable life. In today's EGG session, we are going to look at a really good sampling of what resources exist to learn more about sustainability and how to get more involved. There are so many resources available! I will provide you with a collection of resources and in return hopefully you can add to that list.

Bring your ideas to the meeting and contribute and let's see what we can uncover!

Teaching Energy & The Environment: What I Have Learned

A Presentation By Mei-Ling Shek

pixabay classroom 1189988 1920 smThis summer I taught an undergraduate course entitled “Energy and Environment” for the first time. I made only minor changes to the existing course objectives and description. But instead of using a textbook, I decided to create my own instruction material that is tailored to the subject matter and the schedule of the course. In this effort, I found Al Gore’s book “Our Choices” to be helpful in providing a framework. Teaching meant updating my own knowledge, and revisiting some topics I had not thought about for quite some time. In this presentation I will share some of the things I learned and re-learned.

Join us for this interesting perspective on education!
